Brian Michels
Partner - Optum Market Advantage Delivery

Brian joined the Advisory Board Company, now Optum, in 2013 as a Senior Director to head up the Outreach Services Department connected to Crimson Market Advantage. Brian’s team focused on helping member organizations realize market growth by bringing best practices outreach tactics and habits, training teams on outreach process, helping organizations standup Outreach Teams and offering many other strategy related consulting. Brian and his team has worked with some of the largest academic medical centers and health care systems across the country to some of the most remote community hospitals you can find and everything in between. His philosophy is that great outreach organizations are successful for a reason and it is the process, structure and method they put in to place that really drives growth for their organizations. As a Partner with the Market Advantage team he focuses his efforts on helping lead product delivery efforts with some of these same organizations while at the same time offering up his consulting services.

Prior to joining the Optum he spent the previous eight years of his career working at a 12-hospital system in the Chicagoland area and throughout Illinois. He launched their highly successful physician outreach program, which focused on growing programs such as neurosciences, cardiac, GI, oncology, orthopedics, ambulatory services, and overall growth of the medical centers within the system.

He has also worked closely with and has extensive knowledge of employed medical groups, clinical integration programs, ACO development, clinical co-management, and practice acquisition strategies. He specializes in collaborating with executive leadership to create strategic plans based on growth objectives and executing them through outreach teams.
